Interactivity

1812 Timeline

To commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, the U.S. Navy commissioned Strategic Communications to produce a coffee table book and a companion interactive timeline showing key events. The timeline was built to be deployed on interactive touch screen tables. Users have the ability to freely explore events within a historical context. The timeline also features an audio guided tour for visually impared.

Vanity Plate Frames

This one is kind of fun. A friend of mine came up with an idea for creating customized license plate frames and needed a website. For the home page I thought it would be good to have something interactive that would show what the frames would actually look like on a vehicle. As the user rolls over each of the designs they appear on the back of the car. The user can then click to enter a gallery of frame designs of that particular style.

Lawson Solution Maps

Lawson Software hired me to help come up with a way of describing their product and service offerings. It evolved over time into a web-based application for delivering what are referred to as Solution Maps. The way it works is that a fictious character named Lars Lawson steps a user through a series of stages. It starts out where the user selects their industry and role, which then leads to a list of real world scenarios for someone in that position. This gives the user an opportunity to explore solution maps for each of these issues, beginning with the pains and working through a tengible model that leads to the gains that can be expected with a well designed solution. It's an excellent example of how to simplify complex subject matter. A user can understand in minutes what would otherwise be extremely difficult to explain.
